Utilities

With bills rising all over the country, saving money on your utility bills is becoming a bigger priority than ever before.

Water bills

You can't change your water supplier, as different companies supply different regions of the UK. Even so, there are still ways you could reduce your water bills. You could think about:

  • Paying by Direct Debit to get a discount from some water companies
  • Having a water meter fitted (if you have a low usage) - so you'll only pay for the amount of water you actually use
  • Investing in a water-efficient shower head to reduce the amount of water used
  • Fixing any leaky taps
  • Buying a 'water saver' to put in the cistern of your toilet to cut the amount of waste water.

Gas & electricity bills

Gas and electricity suppliers can offer very different deals and tariffs. You could consider:

  • Searching out the best deals on price comparison websites
  • Getting your gas and electricity on a 'dual fuel' tariff from the same company, which could work out cheaper than paying separately
  • Paying by Direct Debit - you could get a 10% discount
  • Investing in a 'smart energy' meter to keep track of how much energy you use
  • Switching off lights and any electric gadgets when not in use

Internet & phone bills

Where would we be without the internet and mobile phones? Switching to the best deals could save you a significant amount on your monthly bills.

Even if you are 'locked into' a contract, some companies will agree to let you switch to their cheapest tariff, which would reduce your bills.
